No doctor for millions in rural area

Award-winning investigative story based on right to information data collected by this correspondent. After the publication of the story government appointed doctors in hundreds of these small hospitals which provided relief to a large number of people in rural areas. It reveals that 619 Basic Health Units of Punjab, mostly in rural areas are functioning without a single qualified doctor, a situation which is affecting millions of rural folks.

In its election manifesto ruling party of Pakistan namely Pakistan Muslim League-N, had promised to strengthen the Basic Health Units (BHUs) in the country but after seven years of the party’s rule in Punjab, there are 1634 posts of doctors in as many BHUs but 38 percent of them are functioning without a doctor. Here is my investigative story as published in The Newsbasic-health-unit
